The Coastlines and Clear Gray Skies blog started with this benediction, with the intention of becoming more loon-like, able to dive through deeper waters, to plunge into the darkness and dredge up the light.  To cross from the drowsy ripples of the black lake of the mind into the chill predawn air with perception speared in our grasp.  To be like the loon may represent (or require) some eccentricity, as in the common parlance—But when we consider the immense bird surfacing with a net of shadows on its back and pearl necklace wrapped around its throat, we see a champion who has overcome trials, who has learned to navigate where others falter, who has balanced light and dark and attained wisdom that crosses boundaries.  We see a soul that consistently traverses the darkness with elegance and efficiency and emerges having acquired nourishment.  As a totem for fearless creative and contemplative exploration, I can think of no better representative than the loon.  In this spirit, I am offering this line of loon-themed merchandise, including coastal chic winter hats, mugs, and a few simple shirts.  I hope that these offerings inspire new meditations, autumn walks along the coast, or at the very least some fine cups of green tea.
